Maki

Going for a paddle is my healing and socialising time. I see my community and connect with new and old friends. I also get a lot of new ideas when I'm in the water, it's clearing and organising my mind for my plans and projects. It's funny, sometimes I can't stop all those ideas popping up and often the person I was thinking of or wanting to connect with appears in front of me paddling past...

The Ocean makes me feel cleansed and empowered, kind of ready to face the world! The place to (re)charge.

I'd like the world to see what we can't see visually. I feel more important things are often invisible. We are trying to live with less stimulations in our daily life, so we can be more sensible (e.g. food, media exposure, smells, sound, touch, atmosphere, living environment). Eat clean local organic food to nourish our body and mind, which in turn looks after our Mother Earth, eat organic as possible, waste less, preserve, reuse, recycle and have less impact on our planet.

Moving to the place I wanted to live my life at (from Japan to Byron). Meeting my life partner and having children with him is the biggest life adventure so far. Lifetime learning, ongoing growth, biggest commitment + endless joy and the best healing of my past / relationship with my parents plus find deep unconditional love.

I was born in Japan and came over to discover Australia 23 years ago, fell in love with the vibrations of the earth here and the ocean of the East Coast, especially Byron Bay. So happy to call this beautiful and colourful Byron Shire community home for the past 18 years. My main passion is raising healthy and happy children with my life buddy, Mike, in this unique part of the world.

I also love creating things when I have time, which is part of my expression. I'm a freelance writer, contributing female surf culture and lifestyle content from Australia to Japanese magazines. I am also a fashion brand photoshoot coordinator, Surf & Wellness retreat organiser and I work at a local surf shop called Surfection in Byron.
