Where are you from and what's the female surf community like there?
I was born and raised in the small town of Gisborne, New Zealand. I was so lucky to have such a strong community of female surfers to look up to and grow up surfing with. Everyone supports everyone, doesn’t matter what type of equipment you’re on, we were all just so stoked to see one another out in the water.
You've recently left the nest and moved to Tauranga, How's it going? What do you do for work there?
Moving to Tauranga has been a big change for me. It is a lot bigger than Gisborne, but I have really enjoyed being in a new area, making new friends and surfing new spots. I am currently working as an Early Childhood Teacher in Papamoa and I am absolutely loving it! I have always loved working with kids since I was young so to turn it into my profession has been really cool.
If we came to visit you in Gisborne or your new home Papamoa, where would you take us? What would we do? And where are the coldest beers at??
If we’re in Gizzy we definitely need to go surfing down Wainui Beach. There are so many awesome little secret spots up and down the coast where you’ll be able to surf perfect waves with no one out! Would also have to take you to the Gisborne famous Sugar Nightclub ;) If we’re in Papamoa there are lots of awesome little beach breaks all down the coast. There are some really cool hikes to waterfalls and of course awesome little bars right on the beach to get some cold beers.
